The catalogues for Books 2, 3 and 4 of the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale are online now and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. Book 2 features 804 yearlings and will take place October 15 - 17, Book 3 has 652 lots catalogued and will take place October 18 - 19, while Book 4 has a further 122 yearlings selling on the morning of October 20th.

This year’s October Book 2 Group 1 winners BATTAASH and POET’S WORD, as well as hugely impressive two year old Group 2 winner DARK VISION, have all provided the best possible advertisements for Europe’s largest yearling sale and the 2018 catalogue features own or half-brothers and sisters to an impressive 176 Group and Listed winners including 2017 and 2018 Group 1 winners BEST SOLUTION, BLUE POINT, DUE DILIGENCE, UNFORTUNATELY and URBAN FOX. In addition there are 108 sons and daughters of Group and Listed winning mares catalogued.

The sires index makes equally impressive reading with 36 of the current top 40 active British and Irish sires all well represented including ACCLAMATION, DANSILI, DARK ANGEL, DUTCH ART, EXCEED AND EXCEL, FASTNET ROCK, IFFRAAJ, INVINCIBLE SPRIT, KODIAC, LOPE DE VEGA, MASTERCRAFTSMAN, NATHANIEL, NEW APPROACH, OASIS DREAM, PIVOTAL, SEA THE STARS, SHAMARDAL and ZOFFANY.

Ballylinch Stud’s proven Group 1 sire LOPE DE VEGA leads the way numerically with 43 yearlings catalogued. KODIAC has 37, SHOWCASING has 25 and IFFRAAJ has 24, while DARK ANGEL and ZOFFANY both have 23 to represent them. Juddmonte’s evergreen OASIS DREAM, sire of Europe’s highest rated 2-year-old filly PRETTY POLLYANNA, is also well represented with 19 catalogued.

Classic and Group 1 winning first crop sires also feature prominently with 14 yearlings by both the regally bred Champion miler GLENEAGLES and also the outstanding Champion sprinter MUHAARAR, nine by Derby and Arc winner GOLDEN HORN, 20 by 2000 Guineas winner NIGHT OF THUNDER , 13 to represent French 2000 Guineas winner MAKE BELIEVE and a further 10 by Australian Champion BRAZEN BEAU.

Overseas-based sires have always added an extra dimension to Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale and proven French-based sires DABIRSIM, KENDARGENT, LE HAVRE, SIYOUNI and WOOTTON BASSETT have 31 catalogued between them. In addition proven top class USA based sires ELUSIVE QUALITY, HARD SPUN, KITTEN’S JOY, MORE THAN READY, SPEIGHTSTOWN and THE FACTOR are all well represented. Sires with their first crop of two year olds are also well to the fore with 12 yearlings by current leader NO NAY NEVER, 11 by KINGMAN, 19 by AUSTRALIA and seven by CHARM SPIRIT.

Book 3 of the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale will revert to its usual two day format this year, following immediately after Book 2 on Thursday 18th October and Friday 19th October. Book 3 numbers 652 yearlings and is followed by an additional 122 in Book 4 of the October Yearling Sale which takes place the morning of Saturday 20th October. Current top 10 sires DARK ANGEL, IFFRAAJ, KODIAC, MASTERCRAFTSMAN, PIVOTAL and SEA THE STARS all have yearlings catalogued as do AUSTRALIA, BUNGLEINTHEJUNGLE, KINGMAN and NO NAY NEVER all of whom have already sired Group winners in their first crops. All of the yearlings in Book 3 and 4 of the October Yearling Sale are eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes and the largest consignment numbering 43 yearlings comes from Houghton Bloodstock, followed closely by the team of 42 from The Castlebridge Consignment.

Commenting on Books 2, 3 and 4 of the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“The highest rated horse in Europe, POET'S WORD and the World’s highest rated sprinter, BATTAASH, were both purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and Book 3 has also enjoyed a banner year with the likes of Group 1 winner URBAN FOX and top two year old SIGNORA CABELLO. The demand for places in the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale has ensured genuine quality from start to finish and there is no doubt that plenty more champions will emerge from the second week of Europe’s premier yearling sale".

Catalogues for Books 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale are online now and will be available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives from the end of this week.
