2019 V.2 Yearling Sale: 5 yearlings make over €100,000 to five different buyers

Taking place the day after the August Yearling Sale, the V.2 closes the first European yearling sale of the season.

In total, 139 colts and fillies with precocious pedigrees were offered during the day. The total turnover reached €4,109,000 (+16%), while the average finished at €37,000 (+12%). The clearance rate stayed stable at 80 per cent. A total of 27 horses were sold for €50,000 or more in comparison to 21 in 2018, while five were bought for €100,000 or more in comparison to four last year.

Top price of €135,000 for a daughter of first crop sire Shalaa

Standing at Haras de Bouquetot, Shalaa was the Champion Two-Year-Old in England and in France in 2015. These were his first yearlings to go through a European sales ring. Two of his progeny were offered at the V.2, including a half-sister to Group placed MORE THAN A DREAM from Haras de la Louviere (lot 393), that was knocked down for €135,000 to BHB (Herve Bunel) on behalf of Isabelle Corbani and Jedburgh Stud.

Alec Waugh said, We already have a filly by Shalaa at the stud, and he's a stallion that we believe in - the mating is one that we like a lot. She'll become a broodmare at the end of her career. We haven't decided on a trainer yet.

Two No Nay Nevers make over €100,000 each

Of the three yearlings by the Coolmore stallion No Nay Never catalogued, two of them made more than €100,000. The first was out of a daughter of a dual Group placed sister to Iron Mask named SWEET TRAVEL. She was consigned by Haras des Capucines (lot 423) and was sold for €120,000 to Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency) for Middleham Park Racing. She's a two-year-old type and a very nice filly. I've been very lucky for Middleham Park - I bought Boitron and Tigre du Terre for them, so they were happy to give me another chance to buy another horse for them. It's a great syndicate and I'm very pleased to be given another opportunity from them to buy a nice yearling.

She was followed by lot 433 from the family of Prix Jean Prat (Gr.1) winner ZELZAL that made €120,000 to Broadhurst Agency (Laurent Benoit) from Haras du Logis Saint Germain.

Lovera to carry the same colours as her sister Kenlova

LOVERA, a daughter of Listed scorer ICE LOVE by Kendargent and a sister to this year's Group placed juvenile KENLOVA was bought for €105,000 by Pascal Bary. The filly was consigned by Haras de Colleville (lot 432). I've bought her for Mr.Laboureau. She's a lovely filly that closely resembles her sister KENLOVA.
