Strong renewal at Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale

General Manager Roger Casey commented after the successful renewal of the Derby Sale:

"Whilst acknowledging it was always going to be difficult to match the somewhat frenetic trade witnessed last year, the 2012 figures closely mirror those achieved in 2011 and were a consolidation on last year's outstanding returns. Over the two days of the Derby Sale, we have experienced a satisfactory level of trade as borne out by the improved clearance rate and the competition for horses has been extremely strong with no less than eight lots making over 100,000euro.

To achieve the highest price for a store of 250,000euro this year was obviously very pleasing. There was however also tremendous depth to the middle end of the market with 43 lots breaking the 50,000 euro barrier.

This year, we again welcomed our annual contingent from the UK who were active throughout the two days. It was also encouraging to see so many Irish buyers and the considerable presence of point to point operators with the 100,000euro Tattersalls Ireland Sales Bumper continuing to be an added incentive for purchasers at the Derby and August Sales. We would also like to thank our vendors for producing their horses in such good condition and for their continued support of the Derby Sale."

On day one of the Derby Sale, there was a two-way tie for top honours between Lot 95, a Network gelding sold by Monamore Stabled to Henry de Bromhead who was acting on behalf of Alan Potts and Lot 228, a gelding by first season sire Scorpion from Lakefield Farm purchased by Aiden Murphy on behalf of Graham Roach. Both horses made 130,000euro. Today, Henry de Bromhead secured the top priced lot of the sale when lot 462, a gelding by Scorpion out of Fair Present, consigned by Abbey Stables was knocked down to him for 250,000euro. MV Magnier secured a Presenting gelding out of Victorine from the high calibre family of Morley Street and Granville Again consigned by Castletown Quarry Stud for 150,000euro.

The August Sale will take place on the 9th and 10th August and catalogues will be available in the coming weeks.
