ROB ROY repels invaders

Zenno Rob Roy (00 c Sunday Silence - Roamin Rachel by Mining), aided by a dream ride by Olivier Peslier, ran out a comfortable three-length winner of Sunday's 24th renewal of the Japan Cup at Tokyo to register his second win at Group 1 level following his win in the Tenno Sho earlier this month.

Zenno Rob Roy was always handy and when Peslier released the hand-brake turning for home, the response was immediate. Zenno Rob Roy led home a domestic 1,2,3, defeating Cosmo Blue with Delta Blues in third place.

Trained by Japan's leading trainer Kazuo Fujisawa, Zenno Rob Roy races for Shinobu Oosako and is yet another major winner by the late Sunday Silence. Out of the North American mare Roamin Rachel, winner of the 1994 Ballerina Handicap (Gr 1), Zenno Rob Roy will have little trouble finding a place at stud in Japan when his racing days are over.

Roamin Rachel was purchased by Nobuo Tsunoda for $750,000 in foal to Storm Cat at the 1998 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and Zenno Rob Roy is the second stakeswinner out of mare.

The Tokyo racecourse is in the middle of a five-year renovation, but that did not stop 119,362 fans from attending. The other major race of the day was the Japan Cup Dirt, won by Time Paradox, a son of Brian's Time, who defeated Admire Don by two and a half lengths.

Time Paradox has enjoyed a fruitful season, this being his fifth Group win of the year and his first at Group 1 level.
